Holy cow, I miss you guys!

I have started this post about 376 times over the past several months, and never got anywhere with it because I just don’t even know what to say.

Today I’m going to finish it, but don’t expect anything prophetic.  I’m not ready to give up on this blog all together (although I’m sure you’re thinking otherwise considering where the hell have I been?!), but I just can’t seem to make the time for it anymore.  But, I’m willing to try again because I’ve really had the urge here lately, hence my increased Twitter activity.

Which, by the way, could Twitter be any more ridiculous and addictive?  I’m a little obsessed I think.

So, let me give you some updates in random listy format because that is simply the quickest way.

  • Remember that baby of mine?  Well, forget the baby because she is no longer that sweet little angel faced baby that you know and love.  She is a sweet angel faced little girl with opinions, attitude, big girl panties, earrings, pig tails, skinned knees, buckets full of energy, and did I mention attitude?  Don’t believe me, see for yourself:

What happened to my baby, y’all?

  • I am now a working mom with the bag full of guilt to prove it.  So now you can’t say anything about my lack of blogging because I actually have a legitimate excuse!  I am a parapro in a kindergarten classroom, and I absolutely love it.  I’m not going to pretend like it is all rainbows and butterflies all the time because it surely is not, but I do love my job.  Now I am certain I want to finish my early childhood education degree in the near future.

  • I am 30lbs lighter than the last time I blogged regularly.  BREAKING NEWS:  Diet and exercise really do work!  Who knew?  I’ve still got a long way to go, but I can see the light at the end of the fat tunnel, and I will be basking in it in the (near-ish) future.  I can feel it.

  • Aaron and I have yet to kill eachother, which is an accomplishment.  We still love eachother more than we love brownies, which is saying something more than you could ever know because we can devour some brownies over here (except not me because, you know, diet and stuff.  Ahem).  Seriously.

  • I am still absolutely obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy.  In fact, my mouth is currently still hanging wide open since watching the season finale last night.  The first thing I said to Aaron this morning when we woke up was “I just can’t believe it was George.  They can’t kill my George!”  For real though, George simply cannot be dead.  Right?  RIGHT?

  • I have changed my mind about letting Aeralyn be an only child.  I really want another baby.  Aaron does not.  Major dilemma.

I think that is all of the updates that are worth telling for now.  I know there is a ton more, but I’m hoping to be back somewhat regularly for a while, so you will hear all about everything once again.  Are you excited yet?

Dear Scale Fairies,

Hi, it’s me.  The one that avoids the scale like the plague and usually gasps in disbelief at the number you flash before me.  I have a love hate relationship with you, and for the past several years, I’ve mostly hated you.  No, no, it’s not you.  It’s me.  It is oh so definitely me.  But I have to say that I’m starting to come around now.  You see, I’ve been avoiding you all through the holidays because I told myself I didn’t care whether or not I gained any weight.  It’s Thanksgiving, so you’re supposed to overload yourself with pies and stuffing and potatoes.  Also, you’re suppossed to do that again at Christmas.  So that is what I kept telling myself.

Until yesterday.

Then I decided it was time to face facts and see what the damage was.  I stepped on the scale and closed my eyes.  I took a deep breath, and then I quickly let it all out so I wouldn’t add any extra weight.  You know, because air adds atleast 5 extra pounds.  I opened my eyes and looked down, prepared for the worst.  I read the numbers and my heart jumped into my throat.  This can’t be right I thought, so I stepped off and got right back on again.  The same three numbers flashed before me again.  I was in disbelief.  I didn’t gain one single pound over the holidays.  All the pies, cakes, potatoes, macaroni and cheese, cakes, candy, fried food, and did I mention cakes?  All of that, and I didn’t gain one pound.

This my friends is nothing short of a Christmas miracle.

So, thank you scale fairies.  Feel free to stick around as long as you like.  You know, it is the new year, and even though I didn’t make any resolutions, I will be trying to eat healthier.  So, if you want to make those numbers come down, I wouldn’t mind at all.  Also, I will be in a wedding in October, so I would appreciate it if you could work some serious magic before then.

The girl who loves to hate you

  • Happy Friday!  This week has flown by for me.  Actually, this whole month has flown by.  I just realized that Monday is the first day of October, and I’m so excited!  Of course, it was 90 degrees here today, so that wasn’t too exciting.  Hopefully it will cool off soon.
  • Everybody needs to go here today and wish Jessica a very happy birthday. Go now, I’ll wait.
  • Aaron was off work today for the first time in 2 and 1/2 weeks.  It was nice to get to spend some time with him.  We went shopping so I could buy some scrubs for my new job that I start on Monday.  Yep, that’s right, my new job!  I will be working at a local elementary school at the after school program.  It’s only a few hours in the afternoon, and the best part is that I don’t even have to put Aeralyn in daycare.  So I’ll be making the same amount of money that I would have made working all day as a substitute since I won’t be paying for daycare.  And I get to wear comfy scrubs all day.  I’d say it’s a win-win situation.
  • Remember the questions that I answered yesterday? Lindsey andswered hers today.  You should go and check them out.  I promise yours are on the way Erica!
  • I need a better title for these Friday random posts.  Anybody have a suggestion?
  • Okay, so Grey’s Anatomy was pretty good last night.  I mean, as usual, they packed so much drama into an hour long episode that it was a little overwhelming.  But I guess that is part of why I love them so much.  I’m a little irritated with the way this Meredith/Derrick crap is turning out.  Either be together or be apart already.  This whole “friends with benefits” thing is not going to work for me.  I’m pretty sure that Derrick is going to try something with Lexi, and that’s not going to go over well with Meridith at all.  I haven’t decided if I like Lexi yet or not.  I’ll have to see what happens.  She’s being nice to George, though, and that’s always a plus for me.  Speaking of George, I’m very excited about where his relationship with Izzy is going.  She is turning into my favorite character.  Even though I’ll feel sorry for Callie if George leaves her, I have to say I’m rooting for Izzy.  Unless Callie is pregnant.  That will be a whole different situation then.
  • Wow, I’m definitely obsessed with that show.  I just have to tell you one last thing thoough.  My favorite quote from the episode last night was from George and Lexi.  George says to Lexi “You’re kind of awesome.”  and Lexi responds with “I know.”  Loved it!
  • Okay, so now that you think I’m a complete and total freak, I guess I’ll leave you alone now.  Hope everyone has an awesome weekend!

I’ve been Bitten

I mentioned in my last post how excited I was to go shopping for new clothes.  Well, now I’m even more excited after my shopping trip on Saturday.  I went shopping for a few specific things that I needed, but not clothes because that is going to be a special shopping trip where I get to leave baby at home.  But I did browse through the clothing stores to get an idea of where I wanted to come back to.  And by the way Katie, the Target in my area has all of their fall handbags out, and they are super cute!  I vote you come shopping with me.

Have y’all heard that Sarah Jessica Parker now has her own clothing line?  I had heard something about it in passing.  I heard it was quality clothing for everyone’s budget.  I remember rolling my eyes and thinking “Yeah right”.  I figured it was probably another line like the Simply Vera Vera Wang Collection at Kohl’s.  I don’t know about y’all, but that is definitely not my definition of affordable.

But I was definitely wrong.  I went in to the Steve and Barry’s store in the mall just to see what they had since I had only been in there once or twice when they opened a few years ago.  I definitely wasn’t looking for work clothes.  I went in because I thought I might find Aeralyn a GA Bulldogs sweatshirt or something, but then I ran across Sarah Jessica Parkers new clothing line.  It’s called Bitten, and I LOVE IT!! And it is definitely affordable.  I got one shirt that I just had to have right then, and I can’t wait to go back and see what I find.  The shirt was only $9.98!  They don’t have a picture of it on the website, but I’ll take a picture of it after I get it back from the alteration shop.  Yes, the alteration shop.  Everything that I buy has to be altered because I’m so short.  The shirt is one of those longer shirts that are supposed to hit you at around the top of the thigh.  Of course, it hits me around mid-thigh and makes me look like I’m wearing a night shirt in public.  So, this is why I love my little Asian tailor ladies.  I fell in love with them when they altered my wedding dress for me, and I’ve kept going back to them ever since.

So anyway, if there is a Steve and Barry’s in your area, you definitely need to go and check out the Bitten line.  I am thouroughly impressed and I can’t wait to go back and see what else I can find.  Of course, I’ll let you all know what I get.

How was your weekend?

  • I took Aeralyn in to see the pediatrician this morning for the 3rd time in 3 weeks.  Frankly, I’m sick of that place.  And I’m even more sick of my little girl being sick.  I took her in the first time on 8/24.  She was given an antibiotic for an ear infection and a decongestant for coughing and runny nose.  I waited a week, and nothing was getting any better.  She was actually getting worse, and the antibiotic was giving her awful diarrhea.  So, I called in and the nurse told me to just keep doing saline and suction, and that “these things usually take a long time to go away”.  Okay fine, whatever.  And then she got even worse and was so bad that she couldn’t even lay down at night and during nap times because she would choke on the mucus.  I finally convinced them to let her come in again on 9/4, and this time she was diagnosed with Bronchiolitis.  He gave her a different decongestant and prescribed Albuterol breathing treatments.  Now yesterday, after she seemed so much better over the weekend and earlier in the week, she started coughing again and tugging at her ears.  So I took her in and both ears are infected and she has Croupe.   She hasn’t been running a fever or been unusually irritable or anything, just tugging at her ears occasionally.  Now she is on another antibiotic and a steroid medicine for the croupe.  I hope it works so life can return back to normal again!
  • To everyone who read my post yesterday and noticed the random sentence right smack in the middle that made absolutely no sense whatsoever, I apologize.  I promise I’m not a complete idiot, and I just noticed it this morning.  That, my friends, is why you should proof-read.  Don’t say I never taught you anything.
  • By now, I’m sure you’ve all seen Britney’s VMA performance.  And if you haven’t, then you have atleast heard about it.  I may be in the minority here, but I feel sorry for her.  I love celebrity gossip just as much as the next guy, but this whole Britney thing stopped being funny a while ago.  Now?  It’s just sad.  Yes, her VMA performance sucked.  She looked like that was the last place she wanted to be, and I’m sure that it was at that moment.  But what really gets me is all the fat comments.  I think her outfit was an unfortunate choice, and definitely not the most flattering for her new body, but to call her fat?  I think that crosses the line a little bit.  No, she didn’t have rock hard abs and a completely toned physique, but in my opinion, she was far from fat.  I thought she actually looked pretty damn good for having two kids.  Maybe that’s because I know what the alternative looks like, or maybe it’s because I just have a different definition of fat than the rest of the world, but I doubt that.  I just think it’s sad that what she looks like is what most American’s consider fat, and bodies like Nicole Ritchies or Mary-Kate Olsens are what many women strive for.  I hope I can teach Aeralyn to love her body for what it is no matter what shape or size.
  •  Speaking of after-baby bodies, I’m in the market for a bicycle.  Does anyone have any experience with baby seats vs. bike trailers when it comes to hauling your child around with you while you ride a bike?  I can’t decide which to go with, although the much more inexpensive child seat is luring me in.

Hope you all have a great weekend!!

I just Googled “Homemade Halloween Yard Decor”.

Somebody please stop me.

This is what having a child does to you. Actually, I can’t blame it all on the baby. I LOVE Halloween. L-O-V-E. And I think that Aeralyn has inherited that love from me. On Monday, we went shopping. And oh my goodness, there are two brand spanking new Halloween shops in my area. Yes, TWO stores with nothing but Halloween items in them.

In both of the stores, they had scary displays of ghosts, goblins, hideous witches, skeletons with flashing red eyes, HUGE spiders, the works. Aeralyn was fascinated with them all. And y’all, I might have had to hold in a tear because my little girl likes Halloween too!! Just like her mama!

Like I said before, somebody stop me. Or better yet, any ideas on homemade yard decor for Halloween? Or am I the only freak that would actually decorate their yard for the occasion?

Finally, at eleven and a half months old, Aeralyn has gotten her first tooth. That explains the week of clinginess/fussiness that has plagued our household. Thank goodness the little booger finally popped through. Now we can hopefully get back to normal. Also, any tips on how to go about this weaning stuff? Because, SHE IS GETTING TEETH, Oh my GOD!

I’m busily planning Aeralyn’s first birthday party. I can’t believe it is only two weeks from this Saturday. And I’ve still got alot to do. So far I have the supplies and all of the decorations, minus balloons. I’ve got the invitations made out and addressed, but not stamped and sent yet. I”ve got her dress, and an appointment for the birthday pictures. I’ve picked out the cake and given my ideas to the cake baker (because I sure as heck can’t bake a cake).

But there is still so much to do.

I’ve got to decide on the menu for the party. Do I want to do finger foods like cheese and fruit and veggie trays or should we just grill hamburgers and hot dogs and have chips? Or pizzas? Any thoughts? I’m leaning more towards the finger food idea just because I think that would be what Aeralyn would like most, and so would I. But I’m thinking it may end up being more expensive and harder to put together.

I”ve got to find a bow to match the birthday dress, or if I can’t find one to match I’ll have to make it. I’ve still got to finish shopping for the last present that we will be getting her, and wrap them all. I’ve got to make or find a cute notebook to have at the party for everyone to write something special to Aeralyn in. And in the mean time, I need to find a crap load of money to do all of this with. Holy moly, looks like I better get busy people.
